Dr. Mike Duffy Speaks on Stewardship at Fourth Baptist

-Dr. Mike Duffy of Eternal Vision Ministries in Watertown, Wisconsin spoke on Sunday April 19 at Fourth Baptist Church. Dr. Duffy spoke to all of the adults and youth in the Adult Bible Fellowship hour. He began his message by looking at I Timothy 5:8 "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel". From this verse and other passages, Dr. Duffy taught these two important concepts: First, "The financial stewardship responsibility belongs to the husband" (I Cor. 11:3, 4; Eph. 5:21, 22). Second, "Providing for the family belongs to the husband". According to Dr. Duffy, providing means to make a plan in advance. A diligent plan leads to profit (Prov. 28:20). Dr. Mike Duffy also taught his audience to expect income, get income correctly, and to balance the use of income (Prov. 3:9, 10; 28:22; Eph. 4:28; I Tim. 6:17). Dr. Duffy describes stewardship as "The care for and use of everything that God provides for me". In the morning worship service, Dr. Duffy preached a message entitled "My American Dream Has Become a Nightmare". He asked the question "is our trust in something or is our trust is someone?". According to Dr. Duffy, "Every financial decision that we make . . . is in fact a spiritual decision." Dr. Duffy also encouraged his audience to look at their use of time and talents. Dr. Duffy encouraged those without a job to "look for work not a job" and to "review your marketable skills". He also encouraged those who have a job to be a blessing and not a burden and to be transparent. Finally, Dr. Duffy encouraged everyone in the church to pay attention to the financial world and to have enough cash in an emergency fund. In the final service in the evening, Dr. Duffy preached about estate management. According to Dr. Duffy "the owner is not going to die, the manager is". Dr. Duffy said that one in five Americans have an estate plan. Dr. Duffy knows that it is hard to do estate planning, because of secular lawyers and abusive heirs. He likens the tough decision to Solomon's dilemma in Ecclesiastes 2:18. Dr. Duffy gave these principle for the subject. 1. Inheritance planning is the right thing to do (Prov. 13:22, 22:3). 2. Inheritance planning is the important thing to do (Prov. 11:14; 15:6, 22; 16:8). 3. Inheritance planning needs godly counsel (Psalm 1:1-4) 4. Inheritance planning demands discernment (Prov. 30:7-9). 5. The word 'appropriate' is going to play a key role in the issue of inheritance. 6. You don't have to change your will, use the beneficiary benefit. 7. You will answer to the Lord for your financial decisions. Other "Hey bro,Yes I would like to continue to receive the Lost Lake Tribune on a regular weekly basis via email. However, at this time, I really don't have a desire to contribute a hour a week to the Lost Lake Tribune right now, currently I am too swamped with homework and my own agenda to be honest. This is probably not right or fair to you since you put many hours into this publication each week. I hope that once I am out of college and have my own computer (about a year from now that will be happening hopefully) I can be more of a contributor to articles and be a more of a giver to this publication as opposed to just a reader and taker.Until then keep up the work and don't let others opinions or words rile you up. Remember, sometimes your friends just want to get a reaction out of you, maybe you shouldn't give them that satisfaction and just ignore them. Sorry, if I sound harsh or uncaring, Ben, I just don't want to see you friends manipulate you. I love you a lot!Love, Rachel" (Fugate) Neillsville, WI "LOL!!!!! That is hilarious!
