Meet one of Our New Senators – Ron Johnson
Senator Elect for Wisconsin
Hi! My name is Rachel Fugate, proud American citizen. In case you are wondering, yes, my brother is the Senior Editor of the LLT. I would like to introduce you to one of America’s newest Senators – Ron Johnson. To start, here is his biography:
“Ron grew up in a family and in a place where one of the greatest compliments you could give a person was to say that he or she was a hard worker. This belief in a strong work ethic has been a core principle that has guided Ron’s life. As soon as Ron was old enough he started mowing lawns and shoveling driveways to earn a few extra dollars…At the age of 15, Ron started paying taxes when he began working at Walgreen’s Grill. He only started as a dishwasher, but he quickly rose through the ranks to become a night manager before reaching the age of 16. Ron and his wife of 33 years, Jane, met during his senior year of high school. While in college, Ron lived at home and worked full time in order to pay for all of his college expenses. Because of his work ethic, Ron was able to graduate college debt-free and with $7,000 in the bank. (Then) Ron and Jane (got) married…In 1979, Ron and Jane moved to Wisconsin, where Ron started a business called PACUR with his brother-in-law. Ron was the accountant and a machine operator, and for most of the company’s first year, Ron traded 12 hour shifts with his brother-in-law...With the help and dedication of the fine people Ron had the privilege of working with, PACUR has grown from a company supplying a single customer to the largest producer in the world of a specialty plastic used in medical device packaging and high tech printing applications. PACUR sells its products all around the world, with one of its largest export markets being China. PACUR is still proud to say: ‘We don’t export jobs, we export plastic.’ Ron and Jane’s first daughter, Carey, was born with a serious medical condition. It was then that Ron realized that his family is the most important thing in his life, and it still is today while everything else has become secondary. With the birth of Jenna and Ben, Ron and Jane’s family grew, along with the success of the business…Ron enjoys the outdoors, fishing, hiking, camping, Packer and Badger games, rec league softball and basketball, folk music and playing guitar. As always, Ron’s family is with him every step of the way.”
Now a few quotes from Ron Johnson:
“Because many of our politicians have been so grotesquely irresponsible, we have a huge financial mess ahead of us. We cannot afford to keep our heads in the sand any longer.”
“I’m a pretty traditional guy. I believe in a culture of life, and I believe marriage is between one man and one woman.”
Next, this is what Ron Johnson has to say about the economy and jobs.
“As our next US Senator, Ron will work to create a jobs friendly environment by reducing and simplifying taxes and regulations on business. He opposed the Wall Street bailout and the $862 billion stimulus bill. Ron believe(s) the federal government … should not remove capital from the private sector to create more government programs and jobs, which are unsustainable. Government doesn’t create jobs – the private sector creates jobs. Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy and represent roughly 98 percent of employers. They are being punished with higher taxes and regulation that stifle new growth, development, and productive investments in our communities. Russ Feingold has little or no experience creating private sector jobs. His vote for the $862 billion failed stimulus bill is a prime example of a career politician…Three days before the passage of the stimulus bill, Feingold issued a press release stating 2.4 million jobs would be created in the first year and 9 million jobs would be created over 3 years. Instead of creating new jobs, our nation has lost over 2.5 million jobs and unemployment remains near double digits.”
Next, here is what Ron Johnson stands for in relation to life and religion:
“Ron is pro-life, pro-family, and believes that freedom of religion doesn’t mean freedom from religion. Ron…will stand up to those who would attack these cherished traditional values.”
Now, don’t just take my word or Ron Johnson’s word that Wisconsin doesn’t want Russ Feingold anymore, take Russ Feingold’s hometown newspaper’s word:
“In Case You Missed It: Senator Feingold’s hometown newspaper, the Janesville Gazette endorsed Ron Johnson today (Oct. 30, 2010), under the headline, “It’s Time For Change In Washington.”
Highlights from the Endorsement Editorial
‘If having a Janesville native in the U.S. Senate is to our advantage, it wasn’t apparent when his hometown needed him most.’ ‘Feingold claims to be a fiscal conservative, but we see no change in Washington’s spending habits. Rising deficits are a national embarrassment. They threaten our country’s stability.’”
Thank you for letting me introduce you to one of America’s newest Senators. Thank you also for reading the LLT.
